The Center for Communication and Civic Engagement hosted a two-day conference and site visit at University of Washington in Seattle, WA on October 3 and 4, 2008.
Participants in the conference included the project team, along with advisors, partners, UW faculty, teens involved with Becoming Citizens and Puget Sound Off, and special guests. Members of the PSO youth management team showcased pugetsoudoff.org. Becoming Citizens team discussed digital media advocacy training. Presentations and discussions focused on project research and digital advocacy skill development. Advisors and project team members joined in a series of roundtable and panel discussions. Topics included:
- Civic learning on and offline
- Public voice and digital advocacy: essentials and strategies
- Project sustainability: youth governance, partnerships, library access
The conference outcomes will be captured in a final report to be published by end of 2008 year.
